Innovative New Nightclub Event ‘Velvet Interactive Playground’ (VIP) Announces Grand Opening Lineup
Lineup includes genius interactive inventor/artist Eric Gradman of Mindshare Labs, VJ dr. StrangeLoop, resident deejay LRCN with guest Ray Mack, and performance art troupe Zombies without Borders.
Los Angeles – May 5, 2009 – Hollywood promoter Demi Pietchell and the Lab Cats from Mindshare Labs announce the official lineup for the grand opening of the monthly luxury nightclub/interactive art event Velvet Interactive Playground (VIP) at Studio City's Aura on Thursday, May 14, 2009, 9pm – 2am.
Genius inventor and artist Eric Gradman of Mindshare Labs provides the latest in interactive art installations at VIP, transforming the dance floor into a psychedelic arena of dancing bodies. Featuring interactive video projection displays using the latest in computer vision and sensing, Gradman’s digitally enhanced playground transforms the night into an unforgettable experience in which participants may explore the expanding boundaries of physical computing. Attendees can play with interactive exhibits including ShadowSmoke, a projection installation in which partygoers can use their shadows to push and effect the projected fluid’s motion on a wall, and Cloud Mirror, which projects a video-based “magic mirror” of the user as s/he uses a touch-screen to populate the thought bubbles floating above his/her head.
Acclaimed multi-disciplinary artist and VJ dr. StrangeLoop of Brainfeeder LA, founder of Natural Media Research Labs, returns from his latest visual opus at Coachella to cut live visuals on VIP’s main projection screen as local deejay LRCN (pronounced Larson), VIP’s resident deejay, along with guest deejay Ray Mack, spin progressive (house/trance/breaks), tech house, electro house, and minimal techno all night long.
The evening will include special guest performances from Zombies without Borders. “A loose dance troupe of zombie-cheerleader affectionados,” Zombies without Borders features mash-up dancers in full zombie regalia. Headed by undead circus ringleader Heathervescent, tech community evangelist and founder of Los Angeles Geek Dinner, and her partner, choreographer and creative director Sarafina Rodriguez, the troupe will be showcasing their hit number “Hollaback Thriller Girl” along with a host of surprise performances.
Located at the ultra-modern Aura nightclub in Studio City, VIP features a fully stocked bar, a massive dance floor with remote-controlled lighting, several secluded seating areas, and a unique twist on the trendy Hollywood club scene.
